Extraordinary General Meeting Thursday 27 March 2025 Burley Community Library, Grange Road, Burley A meeting just for current members of the Burley Bridge Association, to determine the future of the BBA and the campaign for a safe crossing of the river. Please see the Winter 2025 newsletter for more information. All Life Members and members who pay annually have received notifications. Two motions have been proposed by trustees and committee members:
‘That the Burley Bridge Association (the BBA) ceases to function as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and its affairs be wound up as per Charity Commission guidelines’.
‘That any financial assets that the BBA holds be transferred to Burley in Wharfedale Walkers are Welcome (BWaW). These to be used exclusively in relation to costs associated with the Yorkshire Heritage Way (YHW), including reprinting of the guidebook, promotion of the route and guide, path maintenance and waymarking. Any ownership of current and future assets associated with the YHW (such as guidebooks, income from guidebooks, way markers) to be transferred to BWaW’.
The EGM will provide an opportunity to discuss the factors that have led Trustees and Committee members to reach their conclusion that the BBA be wound up before taking votes on the resolutions. Any up-to-date information regarding offers of funding or for potential new trustees and committee members will also be shared.
Trustees and committee members encourage as many members to attend as possible, given the importance of the situation. If attendance is not possible, votes can be vested with the chair. Voting by post or email is also an option.
Walk the Yorkshire Heritage Way from Ripon to Bradford Friday 2 May - Monday 5 May 2025 A unique opportunity to walk between Ripon and Bradford will take place from Friday 2 to Monday 5 of May. The Burley Bridge Hike - Postponed
Very sadly this event has had to be postponed but we hope it can be rearranged in 2022. We have left the original description below so you can be preparing!
After a gap of a few years, the popular Burley Bridge Hike returns for one year only! The 21 mile challenge walk over Ilkley, Addingham and Burley Moors was run annually for many years to raise funds for the Bridge Campaign, coordinated by members of the Long Distance Walkers Association (the LDWA). We are grateful that some of the original team have offered to help organise this one off event to help raise the profile of the campaign and generate funds.
The attractive high level route can either be run or walked around a number of checkpoints, and this year will start and finish at Burley Cricket Club, Grange Road, in the centre of the village. Parking will be available on site or in nearby roads. Refreshments will be available before the walk, at selected points around the route, and at the finish. Burley Cricket Club have also kindly offered to open their bar to quench thirsts for those wanting an alcoholic alternative to tea and coffee! More details will be announced shortly including the on-line booking arrangements.
